she came up to him and smiled warmly. "hi."
he didn't even look at her.
she rocked back and forth on her heels as she waited for him to say something. But none was forthcoming. she let out a cough.
he blinked, still staring at the empty space in front of him. "what are you doing here?"
she stared at him. "its school, you know. of course i would be here." her fingers twitched. this is bad. this is really bad.
he sighed. "what are you doing here?" he asked again.
this time she didn't miss the inflection. "oh.." she began. " i just thought-"
he then looked at her, his eyes void of emotion. it was a painful thing to stare right into this brown eyes, once so warm and friendly, now wiped clean of any civility.
"will you please stop talking to me?" he asked gustily. "i mean it. i just can't keep up with you anymore. just... stop."
it felt like a million years before it finally sunk in.
what was he saying?
but it made perfect sense. it was silly of her to think she was worth any of his affections. now that he's said it, everything she'd ever thought up about them is now seemed all ridiculous - if it weren't so painful she would have laughed at the absurdity of it all.
maybe its how she saw what she wanted to see in him and made him more than what he really was.
she took a deep breath. he wanted to end things, and she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing her cry over him. "sure. okay," she said, trying to keep her voice from cracking. "nice knowing you."
