day 09

sitting at the table, the hours get later

He was supposed to be here

She's sure he would have called

She waits a little longer, there's no one in the driveway

No one's said they seen him

Why, is something wrong?

She looks back to the window

she checked her phone for the nth time. the traffics was clear, the road wasn't busy and he was supposed to be there two hours earlier tapi sampai la ni bayang2 pun tak nampak lagi. dan tempat duduk depan dia dah dua kali bertukar couple. kalau ada aral melintang di tengah jalan, he must have been calling earlier, telling her that he couldnt make it. 

ish ni tak boleh jadi ni. takpe kita tunggu je dia, bila dia sampai nanti kita order makanan banyak banyak biar dia kopak. haha !

she slowly sipped her second cup of mocha frappucino, with strange thoughts lingering on her mind.

Suddenly the phone rings

A voice says somethings happened

That she should come right now

Her mind goes to December

She thinks of when he asked her

He bent down on his knees first

And he said

"I, I want you forever, forever and always

Through the good and the bad and the ugly

We'll grow old together

Forever and always"

*beep. one text message.

she checked her phone in a light year speed, hoping it was her boy. 

but no. 

his colleague messaged her a short sentence that made her mind went blank for two seconds. 

tears welled up her eye brims, and slowly stroked down her cheeks. 

awak, you must be kidding me aite. kita kan dah nak kahwin bulan depan, why must it to be happen now? habis kalau awak tak ada, kita nak kahwin dengan siapa?

lifelessly, she grabbed her tote bag and rushed to her car. she cried so much that she took two stops when she was driving to the hospital, her view was completely blurred by her flowing tears.

no, i gotta be strong for him. i cant be weak like this.

the message sent to her was

seunghyun met a terrible accident just not. he's at the GH. he need an immediate operation but his kin isnt here to sign the approval agreement. he need you now by his side, please come as soon as you can.

She pulls up to the entrance

She walks right to the front desk

They lead her down a million halls a maze that's never ending

They talk about what happened but she can barely hear them

She tries to keep a straight face as she walks into the room

She sits by his bedside, holds his hand too tight

They talk about the kids they're gonna have and the good life

The house on the hillside, where they would stay

as soon as she reached the hospital, she was led to his boy's room. she almost collapsed the moment her eyes met her boy. it was a very very bad nightmare, she wish somebody would just jerked her awake.  his body was tangled with thousand miles of wires everywhere, his head was bandaged, and his legs were casted. 

excuse me miss, but mr seunghyun now is in a very critical condition. i could say that he is on his verge, between life and death. he need an operation to fix his badly injured spine, and remove his damaged kidneys. i hope you can sign the agreement soon, as you're his fiancee.

she just signed the white papers with trembled hand and tears flowed continuously from her already swollen eyes.

she walked nearing his boy's bed, and hold his hand tightly. there are bruises everywhere on his body and his pinkish lips were pale. the same lips who had promised her eternal happiness on the hillside, the same lips who had embraced her with words that kept their love blooms beautifully as days passed, are now pale.

it was just too hard for her to took it all at once. in a blink, things are going upside down, that changed their life forever.

Then she gets and idea and calls in the nurses

Brings up the chaplain and he says a couple versus

She borrows some rings from the couple next door

Everybody's laughing as the tears fall on the floor

She looks into his eyes, and she says

Through the good and the bad and the ugly

Whether happy or sad or whatever

her boy's condition was not far better than before he undergoes the operation. the white-coated man with a stethoscope hanged around his neck said that her boy was lucky enough to survive the accident itself, let alone the aftermath consequences. it was predicted based on his medical expertness that her boy would only live passed a few days left. 

awak nak tinggalkan kita lepas awak dah janji macam macam kat kita? sampainya hati.. kita sayang sangat kat awak. awak tak sayang kita ke, nak pergi macam ni aje? can't you fight a little more?

her boy opened his eyes, tried his best to curve a smile on his lips. she can't help but cried. he lifted his bruised arms, placed his fingers on his girl's cheek. he slowly stroked the tears away.

kita sayang sangat lah, awak. i want to be with you forever, on the hillside, remember? tapi kita tak daya..

i want to be with you forever too. lets get married !

hah?

the solemnization took place in a simplest way ever could imagine. a few closest family members attended the painfully sweet affair. everybody that were there teared a bit when he said his solemnization on a bed, staggering on each words with pain as it if had drained out his energy. and he slipped a ring onto his-now-wife's delicate finger, without she in her wedding dress.

but she just dont care about those matters, whether wearing a wedding dress or having her dream ring. she just want to be with him forever, even it is in a very literally way. she just dont care at all.

She finishes the vows but his beeps are getting so low

His voice is almost too low

As he says, I love you forever, forever and always

Please just remember even if I'm not there

I'll always love you, forever and always

she came to his bedside, her eyes hard, her mouth quivering. he knew that look

awak jangan la nangis eh.

he croaked, but a tear slipped from her control. she laughed, and the sound was heartbreaking.

promise me you'd get better. janji kait jari.

she whispered, pleading, holding his hand firmly. he closed his eyes. 

awak, i can't promise that..

he whispered back. he took a wince, a deep breath to regain composure.

he opened his eyes, and gazed at her. she looked beautiful despite the pain that tinged her features, and it took all his strength to stroke her cheek. finally, the tears broke through, and she was kissing his forehead tenderly.

you promised.. that we'd get married.. live on a hillside.. have kids.. and now that we're almost there, you're just giving up?

her voice broke on the last phrase. he shook his head, smiling sadly. he whispered to his girl

i'm not giving up. i'm still fighting.. but if i fail..

never ever say that.

she snapped.

he looked at her eyes, pleading. he felt the tears flow down his cheek, but he went on anyway.

awak, remember this, i'll always love you. even if i'm not there, my heart will always belong to you. forever and always...

his voice slipping into soft sigh as his eyes closed.
